This Alternate Gotham City is part of a series of splintered Paradox Realities that have resulted from The Council's tempering with the natural timeline.
Due to the conflict between the Council of Batman and the Council of Luthor and their employment of New Heroes and New Villains to alter key points in time, the reality is in constant flux between a virtuous state of idealism and a corrupt state of oppression.
Alternate Gotham City occurs in the Family Reunion operation.
There are two variations of the alternate Gotham City, which are both negated due to heroes trying to make one exist and villains trying to make the other exist. As a result, the two timelines cancel each other out, enabling the true timeline to remain uncorrupted.
Virtuous Gotham Edit
The "good Gotham" timeline exists due to the heroes preventing the deaths of Thomas and Martha Wayne. As a result, Batman doesn't exist in the present day, but the Wayne family has succeeded in turning Gotham into an idyllic city of peace and prosperity. While the full repercussions of batman not existing are not seen, Gotham appears to have truly benefited from the change. This timeline was negated by the villains when they ensured the deaths of Bruce's parents, allowing Lex to become his mentor.
Corrupt Gotham Edit
The "evil Gotham" timeline exists due to the villains ensuring the deaths of Thomas and Martha Wayne, allowing Lex to become Bruce's mentor. As a result, Bruce Wayne becomes a crooked businessman who leads WayneCorp to take over the city and align with its criminals. Batman, meanwhile, becomes a private assassin working to dispose of those who get in Bruce's way. While the full repercussions of batman supporting crime instead of fighting it are not seen, Gotham appears to have become a much darker place as a result of the change. This timeline was negated by the heroes when they prevented the deaths of Bruce's parents.
