Once ordinary people living their lives without notice, these new heroes and new villains were caught within the clouds of Exobytes unleashed by Future Lex Luthor and were altered by the nanomachines to wield super abilities beyond their ordinary possession.
Quickly sheparded by the established heroes and villains of the world, the sheer numbers of new heroes and villains serve as a bulwark to assist in defending the Earth against Brainiac's invasion.

- New Heroes are recruited to be supervised by Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman, who act as mentors for the new heroes, delegating them tasks and missions to perform to further the battle against Brainiac and the rampaging villains.

- New Villains are recruited to be supervised by Lex Luthor, the Joker and Circe, who act as mentors for the new villains, delegating them tasks and missions to perform to further their own ends.

All player characters belong to this category story-wise, but there are a number of NPCs who do as well. These NPCs may be colloquially referred to as "player spoofs", as NPCs that mimic or resemble players in some ways.
