SunstoneMatrix8

The Fortress of Solitude: Sunstone Matrix is an area within the Fortress of Solitude where Superman stores the fortress' supply of Kryptonian Sunstone Crystals.

In-Game History[]

  • Brainiac has been purged from the Fortress, but General Zod has taken control of the Sunstone Crystal Matrix. If left unchecked, Zod's new Kryptonian Army will use the power of the Sunstones and the Fortress to storm the Earth!

While this raid shares part of its map with Fortress of Solitude: Power Core, only the direct path to the Matrix, marked by the ! mark, is accessible.

Walkthrough[]

The Sunstone Matrix is, by far, the shortest of the three Fortress of Solitude raids (could be finished in ~6 minutes even in a random group, with nearly half being dialogue/cutscenes), but it could be very difficult if the players are not paying attention.

The raid is basically a single long boss battle in an enclosed chamber. There would first be 3 waves of soldiers (multiple of each of Kryptonian Infantry, Kryptonian Sniper, Kryptonian Medic) while Non, Ursa and Zod cannot be attacked as they are behind a forcefield.

The medics are the most dangerous of the three. They have a special attack in which they surround themselves in a red aura, and blast out energy waves after a few seconds if they are hit by a weapon attack, each dealing extreme damage (3000+) to all targets in a fairly large area. It is recommended to dodge immediately once the red aura appears - there is no overhead dangerous attack icon. Alternatively, some weapon combos can knock them down during the aura phase and stop them from commencing the attack. When medics glow green with a hand up in the air, use an interrupting weapon attack to stop them from healing other enemies.

The infantry and snipers are much less deadly in comparison, hitting only 300s, although the infantry has a spin attack that hits all targets in melee range with 300s. When you see red symbols surrounding you, a sniper is about to hit you with Seismic Clap, a targeted attack that stuns and can hit 2000+.

After a few waves of soldiers have been defeated, Non joins the fight. Occasionally, two Sunstone Sentries along with a random soldier (medic, infantry or sniper) would spawn. They can stack if you take too long, they don't have much health and should be quick to take down even from a distance. First, red Sunstone Sentries would appear that shoot fireballs that deal fairly low damage.

When Non is defeated, Ursa would attack. Yellow Sunstone Sentries would appear after the red ones, and are extremely dangerous. They have a melee Primary Attack that can hit 6000+ against multiple targets, easily KO'ing players at this level in 1 or 2 hits, so they must not be allowed to reach players clustered around the boss or they can quickly wipe your team. They don't have much health and are slow-moving, so attacking them and knocking them down from a distance is usually sufficient.

Zod would attack when Ursa is defeated. All three bosses deal significant damage with their Primary Attacks, but as this is focused on the tank, they are not much of a threat compared to yellow Sentries. Otherwise, the main damage they deal to other players is a slowly sweeping heat vision attack that deals 1000+ damage continuously as long as you are in contact with the beams, although the range is substantially shorter than most player ranged attacks.

While there are separate loot for Non, Ursa, and Zod, all three only are awarded when Zod is defeated. If you defeat Non and Ursa and fail to defeat Zod, you will not receive any loot and must start from the beginning. When General Zod is KO'ed, all Sunstone Sentries automatically disappear, but any kryptonian soldiers will remain.

Rewards[]

  • 6 Source Marks (apparently automatically added to loot in the form of 1 for Non, 1 for Ursa, and 4 for Zod, but it is not possible to not loot all 3 at once).
  • Additionally, Non, Ursa and Zod all have a Loot Picker drop - all 3 of them always offer a choice out of at least 2 level 64 Kryptonian-themed epic weapons and 2 generic gear pieces (i.e. you can get up to 3 pieces of gear from one raid).

Trivia[]

  • The Fortress of Solitude and Zod's imprisonment would come up again in The Phantom Zone.
  • Previously, players above the CR range of instances don't get their Source Mark rewards, but they do get the option of the same 3 possible marks from Loot Picker weekly. Due to the short time it takes to solo this raid compared to most other low level raids, it can be a decent option especially for high CR (200+) free players with limited options to gain marks. This is no longer relevant as House of Legends (Episode) made instances available to high CR players with scaled difficulty (which also meant high CR players have their stats scaled down to match this instance, making it extremely difficult to solo) and Episodes are now all free to play. It is still a decent option however due to its short length.
  • Previously, players in the CR relevancy window obtain a minimum of 10 Source Marks from this raid. This was lowered to 6, likely because high CR players can now gain marks from it.
