BackgroundEdit

John Stewart was an architect and a former U.S. Marine, who was selected by the Guardians of the Universe as Hal Jordan's backup Lantern after Guy Gardner was seriously injured. Although Jordan objected initially after seeing that Stewart had a belligerent attitude towards authority figures, the Guardians stood by their selection and Jordan complied, equipping Stewart with the standard uniform and power ring.
