In DC Universe Online, Player Classes are not defined by the type of weapon they wield, but by the type of power they possess.
While all power types can be used in a DPS capacity, specific power types can also be used as part of a Secondary Role to aid in team-oriented battles.
The type of power type chosen dictates the type of Team Role the player will serve.
Team Roles
DPS is a term used to refer to a character's rate of damage inflicted over time through constant attack. As such, the role of the DPS is to inflict the maximum amount of damage possible in the shortest time possible. They are expected to be able to engage enemy characters in straight battle through the use of weapon abilities or power abilities, support the Tank by defeating the mobs attacking them, and protecting the Healer and Controller from enemy attack.
Might DPS
Precision DPS
Might DPSs rely on dealing damage through the use of Power abilities. Thusly they are expected to possess a high Might and Power stat, and rely heavily on the Controller to revitalize their Power bar in order to continue dealing damage.
Precision DPSs rely on dealing damage through the use of Weapon abilities. Thusly they are expected to possess a high Precision stat and possess in-depth knowledge on how to effectively use their chosen weapon.
The role of the Tank is to protect the group from being targeted for catastrophic damage by drawing all enemy fire onto themselves. The Tank is expected to be the most durable character in the party, to survive an oncoming attack, and it then falls upon the Healer to restore the tank's health before they succumb to too much damage.
Ice Tank
Fire Tank
Earth Tank
Rage Tank
Ice Tanks specialize in locking down opponents in blocks of ice and reinforcing their own defenses with frozen transformations. The power favors traditional, high defense and health, Tanking play styles.
Fire Tanks specialize in area attacks and possess the ability to sustain themselves with their own infernos. While not as defensible as Ice Tanks, Fire Tanks serve as "Self-Healers"; possessing the ability to self heal to sustain themselves.
Earth Tanks specialize in absorbing damage as well as summoning golems to do their bidding. The power favors damage transference and general area disruption to focus enemy attacks upon themselves.
Rage Tanks specialize in berserker attacks and intense, but brief, high-powered combos. This power favors Beserker-style play, with the intention of quickly wiping out enemies before they can deal excessive damage.
The role of the Healer is devoted to the restoration of allies' health in order to delay or prevent their defeat. The Healer is expected to be aware of the status of the group and possess a high Restorative and Power stat, enabling them to bestow high amounts of regenerative health abilities. They are most commonly expected to support the group from the back so as to be able to see the status of the rest of the group and avoid oncoming damage.
Nature Healer
Sorcery Healer
Electricity Healer
Celestial Healer
Nature Healers have the ability to transform into various creatures as well as summoning various beasts to aid in combat with sustaining their comrades with floral control.
Sorcery Healers wield the power of primal magic to attack and/or aid various targets.
Electricity Healers use their link to the Speed Force to invigorate their friends while draining their enemies of energy.
Celestial Healers wield the power of both the blessed and the cursed to form damaging hybrid combo attacks. Unique in their ability to deal considerable damage, this power favors Battle Mage-style gameplay and users can most often be seen in the middle-front lines of a battle group.
The role of the Controller is devoted to causing general disruption in the enemy lines as well as providing Power to fuel the powers of other allies. The Controller is expected to be aware of the status of the group and the enemy and possess a high Vitalization, Dominance and Power stat, enabling them to bestow high amounts of regenerative power abilities and influence the enemy's status. They are most commonly expected to support the group from the middle or back so as to be able to see the status of the rest of the group and avoid oncoming damage while also be able to disrupt enemy characters.
Gadgets Controller
Mental Controller
Light Controller
Quantum Controller
Gadget Controllers possess an array of tech designed to control and otherwise incapacitate groups of enemies. This power favors area attacks to disrupt groups of enemies via direct attacks.
Mental Controllers use their psychokinetic powers to control individual enemies to serve their own ends. This power favors inciting chaos in enemy groups by either inciting one character to attack another or causing environmental objects to attack them.
Light Controllers use the light of the emotional spectrums of Will or Fear to form damaging combo attacks against the enemy. This power favors melee attacks without the need of support from the Player's equipped weapon.
Quantum Controllers manipulate the forces of space and time to control the enemies before them.

These are sometimes regarded as Newbies who usually make mistakes or are clumsy at playing but actually the term refers to no-good players; players who don't learn and keep making the same mistakes. These are the stupid players playing the game.
These are the players who have played the game since its beginning or for an otherwise extended period of time. Sometimes they are called the Originals, Old Players or the Beta Players, depending on what point of the game they started playing.

These players study the game's lore and serve as walking information centers for background information on the game and its contents. While not always skilled or high leveled, these players get by on pure tactical knowledge of monster weaknesses, item locations and arena layout.
These are the experienced/seasoned players of the game. They have vast knowledge of the game and usually help the Newbies by answering their questions or sometimes helping them in the game. They are very good players.
