Jervis Tetch uses hypnotism and mind control technology to turn people into slaves. A strange, stunted little man, he is obsessed with Alice in Wonderland. His dream is to recreate Carroll's fantasy with his hatted thralls. Tetch is fascinated with his hats, and for good reason: his specially-designed headgear can control anyone who wears it. He has no physical powers, but relies on his army of hypnotized minions to do his work for him.
Although Tetch sometimes lends his technology to other villains for a particularly delightful new topper, he mostly acts alone. After all, his Alice fixation is not every criminal's cup of tea.
Inspired by Lewis Carroll’s book, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, master mesmerist Jervis Tetch convinced himself that he was the Mad Hatter; hypnotizing teenage girls to be his “Alice” before selling them into slavery.
His obsession with collecting hats has led to his various ploys being designed around them.
